A Jarrow GP practice has been officially recognised for its work in improving sustainability.
Albert Road Surgery, which is part of South Tyneside Health Collaboration, achieved Bronze Standard in recognition of its work on completing the required toolkit for the Green Impact for Health Certificate 2023.
Green Impact is a multi-award-winning sustainability learning and awards programme, designed to embed sustainable practices across organisations. As part of signing up for the initiative, Albert Road Surgery were given a tailored healthcare toolkit to complete on to achieve the award.
Dionne Casey, Assistant Practice Manager at Albert Road Surgery, said: “To obtain the Green Impact Bronze award we completed the Green Impact toolkit and we have put a few things they were asking for in place. Such as monthly meter readings from our energy suppliers to take a running average of our energy bills, turning sockets off in rooms that we are not using power in and purchasing Fairtrade coffee and recycled paper where possible.
“The Toolkit also asked if we welcomed breastfeeding in the practice, which we do and we offer a private, safe space for breastfeeding mothers.”
